Ochtendserenades

Hanenzetten, or rooster crowing competitions, is a traditional folk sport in Limburg, East, and West Flanders. Participants predict how many times their rooster will crow during a match, with accuracy determining the winner. Unlike other regions, Limburg allows various rooster breeds, provided they crow at least 20 times.

The sport fosters camaraderie, with knowledge passed down through generations. Once a popular pastime, hanenzetten thrived during World War II and grew post-war with clubs in nearly every village. Today, however, the number of clubs is declining, and the sport is slowly fading into obscurity.
